Missouri B. Houpt
Missouri B. Houpt, was born in Newport, Luzerne County, Pa., Feb. 17, 1839; graduated from Wyoming Seminary; learned the trade of carpenter and builder in N. Y. City; spent four years there; in '63 came to Wilkes-Barre and located and has been the leading contractor in this part of the state; he has designed and built most of the important buildings in this city.
In the fall of '94 discontinued contracting; in '91 opened a lumber yard; in '94 built his large planing mill where he is now conducting the largest business in his line in this part of the state; in '91 took his son in partnership; Mr. Houpt takes an active part in everything that is for the advancement of the interest of the city; Republican in politics.
