Edgar Missouria Houpt, an esteemed and well known resident of this city, died yesterday afternoon at 1:20 o'clock at the family home, 150 South Franklin street, of complications.
Deceased was born on March 30, 1876 in Wilkes-Barre, the son of Missouria B. Houpt and Sarah Garinger Houpt. He was educated at Harry Hillman Academy and Cornell University where he graduated in the year 1898. He married Edith May Payne, daughter of the late Edward F. Payne and Elsie R. Payne, February 6, 1901, and is survived by his wife and two children, Elsie Reith, who is Mrs. John F. Bunn, Jr., of Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, and one son Edgar Payne Houpt of New York City.
Mr. Houpt went to New York in 1899 where he was for a number of years engaged in the real estate business. He returned to make his home in Wilkes-Barre in 1911 as representative of the banking firm of F. W. Clark & Co. For the last ten years he has been resident manager for Baker, Young & Co. He was a life long member of First Presbyterian church of this city and was always actively interested in the Boy Scout movement of the valley, being treasurer of the local council since its inception. He was a member of the Westmoreland club and Cornell Association of this city.
Mr. Houpt was a decendant of one of one of the pioneer families of the valley, several of his ancestors having served with distinction in the Revolutionary War.
